The
Bald Eagle is found only in North America. Adult eagles generally weigh between
nine and twelve pounds with a wingspan of seven feet. Male eagles are slightly
smaller than the females. The distinctive white head and tail of the mature Bald
Eagle developes between four and six years of age. The
Bald Eagle feeds mainly on fish, but water fowl and small mammals supplement their
diet. The Glendale River Salmon Run starts in mid August and can continue on through
the fall. The salmon die shortly after spawning and it is their carcasses which
provide a large portion of the Bald Eagles diet. |
